Isopropyl Alcohol

EWD Solutions offers two formulations of Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) and one eco-friendly alternative to IPA, all from leading manufacturer Techspray.

99.8% Pure Anhydrous Isopropyl Alcohol is excellent for defluxing, stencil cleaning, tape head cleaning, other light cleaning and as a flux thinner. Avoid "bargain" alcohols for critical electronic cleaning. Cheap alcohols contain much more water, which slows drying and can cause oxidation, while "denatured" alcohols leave residues. Non-ozone depleting. Available in presaturated wipes, in an aerosol can, trigger spray bottle and in bulk quantities.

70% Isopropyl Alcohol, 30% DI Water is ideal for effective and economical stencil cleaning. Does not contain a denaturant and is non-ozone depleting. Available in presaturated wipes and in bulk quantities.

Eco-Stencil Manual Stencil Cleaner is an eco-friendly alternative to IPA. It effectively removes all types of solder paste (e.g. waterbased, RMA, noclean, lead-free) and uncured adhesive from screens, misprinted boards and equipment. Completely safe on stencils, squeegees, and equipment surfaces. Ideal replacement for IPA cleaners, which are often prohibited because of safety and environmental restrictions on VOC emissions or waste disposal issues. Non-flammable, non-ozone depleting, low VOC, zero GWP and biodegradable.

Kester Lead-Free Wire Solder

EWD Solutions offers several types of Lead-Free Wire Solder from Kester.

Lead-Free No-Clean 275 Wire Solder: Kester® 275 No-Clean Flux for cored solder wire was developed to provide superior wetting performance for hand soldering in the electronics industry. The chemistry is based on some of the same principles that have been safely used for years in mildly activated rosin fluxes. The use of 275 No-Clean Flux results in an extremely clear post-soldering residue without cleaning. The unique chemistry in Kester 275 was also designed to reduce spattering common to most core fluxes. Kester 275 can be used for both lead bearing and lead-free soldering.

Lead-Free Activated Rosin 48 Wire Solder: Kester Activated Rosin flux is a very high activity rosin flux used for difficult to solder metals. It was developed for lead-free applications to enable soldering of most common metals and has performance characteristics far exceeding standard RA fluxes. It builds on the performance of its 44 Rosin Flux predecessor with instant-action wetting to provide fast and reliable solder joints.

Lead-Free Water Soluble 331 Wire Solder: Kester® 331 Organic Flux is a water soluble formula for use in flux-cored wire. This cored solder version of the popular 2331-ZX Neutral Organic Water Soluble Liquid Flux is more effective than rosin fluxes in soldering difficult metals. The same fast action and mild properties are exhibited with 331 Organic Flux as with the liquid 2331-ZX. This flux is more heat stable than most organic fluxes, resulting in minimal smoke and odor. The residue can be completely removed with a simple water rinse.

Many other Kester products are available at EWD Solutions including bar solder, solder paste and solder flux.

Kolver FAB Series Electric Screwdrivers

FAB series electric screwdrivers feature an advanced ergonomic design, ease of use, high accuracy and durability that have made these drivers the standard which all others are measured. They are lightweight, compact, powerful and come standard with ESD Safe housing certified to SP method 2472 (Ericsson approved).

The torque is set externally: an adjusting nut controls output torque by changing the clutch spring compression. A reference scale will indicate the torque setting. The low voltage 30 VDC rare earth motors combine high performances and long life. Replacing carbon brushes and regreasing gears every 400,000 cycles is all you need for maintenance.

The motor works in combination with a control unit, sold separately. The electronic control circuit cuts the power supply to the motor in response to the clutch action, as soon as the pre-set torque has been reached. In addition, the controller can be supplied with torque reached signal, lever signal, remote start and reverse and with ACE screw counter unit.

The drivers come standard with an ESD Safe body, 8' connection cable and suspension bail. The new heavy-duty cables and connectors, developed for robotic applications, are made of antistatic dissipative material for a safe use in ESD environment.

Choosing A Cutter

When choosing a cutter, EWD recommends knowing the features your application requires: Size of the head, head shape, type of cut and cutting capacity.

Size
Micro, Medium and Maxi are the three main sizes. Each size is available in different head shapes. Micro Cutters: Miniature in size and are for micro-electronics and fine wires.
Medium Cutters: Combine robustness, visibility and accessibility. There are a large variety of head shapes for precision work in hard-to-reach areas.
Maxi Cutters: Strongest, most robust size for general cutting in electronics. Cuts large wire diameters.

Cut
Blade options determine the shape left of a lead after cutting.
Semi-Flush: Leaves a pyramidal tip at the end of the wire. Suitable for soft copper wires and very hard wires.
Flush: Leaves a smaller tip at the end of the wire than semi-flush without reducing the cutting capacity. Finer cutting edges.
Super Full Flush: Leaves absolutely flush wire ends. Prevents soldering tags in soldering bath procedures. Suitable for soft wires.

Head Shape
The head shapes differ in terms of shape and design. There are six basic shapes:
Straight, Relieved Head, Tip Cutter: For horizontal and vertical cuts. Facilitates cutting in hard-to-reach areas. High visibility and accessibility.
Angled, Narrow Head, Tip Cutter: For precise cuts at different working angles. Offers visibility and accessibility.
Tapered Head, Side Cutter: The jaws have straight edges and taper to a point allowing access to hard-to-reach areas, but reduces the cutting capacity in comparison to the same size oval head cutter.
Pointed, Relieved Head, Tip Cutter: Narrowest head. Relieved underside provides access to extremely hard-to-reach areas. High visibility.
Angled, Wide Head, Tip Cutter: Also for precise cuts at different working angles. Offers high cutting capacity.
Oval Head, Side Cutter: Most widely used. Robust and offers the highest size for size cutting capacity.

Visit EWD Solutions to find the right cutter for your application.

These static-control flooring products install quickly and easily without the need for adhesives, copper strips, underlayments or padding. Our static-control systems were uniquely engineered to meet the demanding needs of industrial environments that require the highest level of electrostatic discharge protection, and still withstand industrial environments, including fork truck traffic. SelecTile ESD is a truly robust system that is completely scalable to any specification or intricate layout. Optional interlocking edges provide a finished edge for custom floor mat configurations. This not only allows the conductive floor coverings to achieve an unprecedented level of complete ESD protection, but to also aesthetically blend with any work environment, yielding balance and symmetry.

OhmStyle ESD carpet flooring tiles are conductive, connected and grounded. They will help to provide an ESD free work environment, while offering a decorative look and comfortable floor. OhmStyle ESD carpet floor tiles act like a sponge, quickly absorbing static electricity from the source and into the flooring material. The built-in conductive fibers then conducts the charge through to the subfloor and ground-point connection. This system’s capacity to neutralize the voltage deferential in a charged body is what renders them so effective at protecting sensitive components.

Manufacturing Buzz

Social media and mainstream media have been buzzing about American manufacturing a lot recently. The second annual Manufacturing Day was held on October 13 and focused attention on the growing shortage of qualified manufacturing workers. And the Boston Consulting Group projects that “the United States is in a strong position by around 2015 to eventually add 2 million to 3 million jobs and an estimated $100 billion in annual output in a range of industries.”

Here's a roundup of the best articles:

But the buzz isn't always true. What do you think? Are your companies experiencing a slow down or an increase in demand for your product and services? Are you able to find enough skilled workers to fill positions, or are you eliminating positions to cut costs?

Getting Ready For MFG Day 2013

At EWD Solutions, our daily lives are a celebration of pride in the manufacturing industry. But tomorrow is special. Started in 2012, October 4 was designated as Manufacturing (MFG) Day in an attempt to increase the public knowledge of manufacturing.

A ThomasNet.com annual Industry Barometer Report found that the manufacturing industry is not attracting skilled workers from the younger generations in large enough numbers to sustain the growth of this industry that is vital to the economic security of this country. MFG Day gives manufacturers an opportunity to open up their doors and offer tours and education to the public about the technological advances and other realities of the industry.

Are you doing anything to celebrate MFG Day? Click here to see if there are any events planned in your area.
